Japan Equivalent: Beast Wars Telemocha Series

Beast Wars Transformers: 10th Anniversary was Hasbro’s 2006 commemorative re-issue of the main characters from Beast Wars. The figures each came with a DVD containing an episode of the original Mainframe Entertainment cartoon.

The diminuntive series included only a few figures, and all the mass-release figures were selected from the Beast Wars Deluxe class. In order to accomodate the main characters at the same price point, Hasbro elected to use Rattrap’s Transmetals mold, and Optimus and Megatron were redecoed to the recent Cybertron Jungle Planet Optimus Prime and Megatron molds (which were designed with this dual use in mind). Each figure was redecoed to more closely resemble their cartoon appearances, with varying levels of success. They also included large tampographed faction symbols on their bodies. In addition to the DVD cartoons, each figure came with another extra: a piece of a Transmutate build-a-figure. This was the first foray into the “BAF” concept since Heroes of Cybertron. Megatron and Optimus included miniatures of their respective space ships in place of the BAF parts. The series’s capstone was a Toys “Я” Us set containing retools of the Ultra class Optimus and Megatron toys, indistinguishable from the Takara Beast Wars Reborn release.

Beast Wars 10th had no real lasting traits in future Transformers toy series, but Japan followed suit the next year with Beast Wars Telemocha Series, a line of redeco reissues more suited to the Japan domestic market.
